The LadyAv8rBeth podcast gives our listeners the opportunity to learn about the aviation industry through candid conversations between professionals in all areas of the field.
Our podcast guests pour so much value into their episodes, and we greatly appreciate them for sharing so much of their stories, wisdom, and advice with our listeners.
But these incredible careers are so much more than we can fit into a podcast!
Many of our podcast guests have authored, co-authored, or contributed to books of all genres, and we are thrilled to share a few of them here on the LadyAv8rBeth blog!
While we’re sharing books by podcast guests, who better to start with than our host, Captain Dennis James!
In addition to his career as a pilot, and taking the time to interview our podcast guests, he also contributed to his brother’s book: Manners Will Take You Where Money and Brains Won’t: Wisdom from Momma and 35 Years at NASA.
This book is a thought provoking journey, examining the lessons learned at home that helped to create a successful career at NASA and beyond.
We don’t want to give too much of the book away, but we will say that it is an excellent read for all who are looking for the keys to finding success in their careers.
Beverly Bass is an aviation icon, and her podcast episode is a must-listen:
Not only was she the first woman promoted to the position of Pilot Captain by American Airlines in 1986, but her experience piloting a transatlantic flight on 9/11 inspired the musical Come From Away, and she shares so much about both of these experiences with our listeners!
Her picture book, Me and the Sky, inspires future aviators of all ages with her incredible story: from being told “girls can’t fly airplanes” as a little girl to her barrier-breaking career in the skies.
It was an honor to host Beverly on our podcast, and we are so excited to share about her book as well!
The next book by a podcast that we want to share is Takeoff: The Story of America’s First Woman Pilot for a Major Airline, by Bonnie Tiburzi.
Bonnie’s podcast episode is a delightfully candid tour of her experience as, quite literally, the first of her kind, and her book gives even more insight into this truly unique experience!
Most admirably, Bonnie maintains a positive attitude through her recounting of the challenges that she faced to pave the way for all future women in aviation.
This book is a must read for fans of memoirs, aviation history, or anyone who enjoyed Bonnie's podcast episode and want to learn more!
Captain Brenda Robinson appeared on our podcast to share an inside look at her boundary-smashing career as the first ever Black woman to be a pilot for the US Navy.
Her incredible accomplishments have led her to continue her career into mentorship, advocacy, and public speaking, pouring her wisdom into the next generation so they can find their own version of success.
While not centered around aviation, her book, Success is an Attitude, coaches teens through strategies for goal setting to inspire and equip them to become the best version of themselves as they enter their adult lives.
We are so grateful for Brenda’s generosity with her wisdom and experience, both on the podcast and in her book!
We want to end our podcast guest book list on a strong note with Aiming Higher: A Journey Through Military Aviation Leadership, which features contributions from podcast guest Jason Harris.
This book is a collection of essays from top-level military leaders, all at different stages of their careers, who formed a mastermind group to support each other, and provide a model for others to learn from.
Readers will glean valuable lessons about personal growth, developing a lifestyle of continual self improvement, and the importance of building strong relationships with both colleagues and mentors.
Thank you for joining us as we shared some books by our podcast guests, if there are any books by aviators that you’ve loved, please share them in the comments. We are always on the hunt for more books to read!
You can find all these books (as well as other books and resources we recommend!) in our Amazon Storefront.
